Accreditation

Connecticut Farmland Trust strives for the highest standards in land conservation.

Accreditation from the national Land Trust Alliance group recognizes organizations for meeting national standards for excellence, upholding the public trust and ensuring that conservation efforts are permanent. Accredited land trusts have demonstrated their commitment to national quality standards for nonprofit management and land conservation. The rigorous accreditation program verifies that the land trust has systems in place to ensure the promise of land protection is a permanent one.

In October of 2012, CFT became one of only six Land Trusts in Connecticut, and one of 181 nationwide, to earn the coveted seal from the Land Trust Alliance Accreditation Commission.

This means that CFT meets the standards of:

  • Sound finances
  • Ethical conduct
  • Responsible governance
  • Lasting stewardship

In 2017, CFT renewed it’s Accreditation. This independent re-certification of Land Trust Alliance standards and practices is perpetual insurance that we are doing things right, so we can do them forever. CFT will renew again in 2023.

Protecting working land for the future was a lofty goal – becoming Accredited placed us in a new class and serves as proof that we have the integrity to see that goal through.

As of 2019, there are over 400 Accredited land trusts across the nation, and 29 in Connecticut.
