CFT and its partners, the CT Dept. of Agriculture and the town of New Hartford, worked together to preserve the 85.5 acres. The riverfront farm, which boasts 73% prime and important soils, is on a triangular slice of land nestled between the east and west branches of the Farmington River.
Well-known Gresczyk Farms of New Hartford currently leases the farm fields. Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash, eggplants, and cabbage are grown in the larger, southern fields and sweet corn is grown in the northern two fields.
Owner Michael Butler and his brother Bud Butler have long been conservation-minded. “It’s always been my desire to keep my property as a farm,” said Michael Butler.
