We are pleased to offer a special maple syrup production tour of Miller’s Tri Mountain Farm in Durham.
The earth is waking up. You can feel it in the air and see it in the small tiny buds that are adorning the bushes we walk past every day. Experience firsthand the way that maple trees show us that spring is around the bend with a tour of the property.
Visitors will be go for a stroll through the maples with owner Josh Miller as he explains the history of his farm and the maple process. How better to enjoy a maple syrup production with a walk and demonstration?
The Miller Farm property was originally purchased by Ben and Ann Miller in 1929 on Tri-Mountain Road in Durham. Originally a dairy and poultry farm similar to others in the area, the farm changed operations in the early 1980’s to focus on Christmas Trees and has been offering Christmas Trees for sale for the past 35 years. In 2015 the farm added maple syrup to it’s list of products produced on the farm property. Approximately 250 sugar and red maple trees are tapped on the property, with most being connected through a tubing system attached to the sugar house.
After the walk, you will enjoy the warmth of the maple syrup shack. You even get a tasting of some of the hot, freshly distilled maple syrup as you watch sap as it transforms before your eyes. Connecticut Farmland Trust offers home-made maple cookies as you experience the production of sap into delicious syrup.
This is a great outdoor winter family event where everyone is encouraged ask any questions. The owners of Miller’s Tri Mountain Farm and Connecticut Farmland Trust encourage you to take home some excellent Grade A syrup.
