Osuch Farm, Watertown and Bethlehem

Protected by: Connecticut Farmland Trust, Watertown Land Trust, USDA-NRCS
Year Protected: 2007
Acres: 39.9

The 40-acre Osuch Farm was protected through the efforts of Watertown Land Trust and Connecticut Farmland Trust.  Cultivated since the 1790’s, the farm is currently leased to a local family dairy that uses it for corn and hay production.  The parcel contains more than 50% of the state’s highest quality agricultural soils and is within two miles of approximately 700 acres of active farmland.  Preservation of the property also protects an abutting national historic site and the water quality of the adjacent Nonnewaug River, which provides drinking water for area residents.

CFT secured funding from the USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service for the purchase of a conservation easement on the farm.  Watertown Land Trust provided the matching funds, including a grant from the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

There is a walking trail on the property that is open to the public. A parking area is provided. The address for your GPS is 281 Skilton Road, Watertown, CT  06795. That address is a private driveway; at first you feel like you are turning into the private driveway, but then you see an obvious parking lot for the trail to the left and the sign.
