Connecticut Farmland Trust had the pleasure of working with Elsie Scaglia to protect its first farm.  At 16.5 acres, the orchard was too small to qualify for the state’s Farmland Preservation Program so Mrs. Scaglia chose to donate an easement on her family’s farm to CFT.

Today, the farm produces maple syrup, blueberries, chestnuts, and numerous other Connecticut grown products. They have a seasonal farm stand open to the public, and offer pick-your-own blueberries.  Walnut Ledge Farm is also registered with the Connecticut Botanical Society for some of the largest walnut and chestnut trees in the state.

“I’m so happy that Connecticut Farmland Trust was there for me.” – Elsie Scaglia
