Protection of Digiulio Farm

Protected by: Connecticut Farmland Trust
Year Protected: 2018
Acres: 25.8

Acting on their longtime belief in land preservation, the Diguilio family donated their farm’s development rights to CFT and pledged an additional gift to aid in the future stewardship of the land.

In 1985, the family bought the farm, which boasts 24.8 acres containing 60% prime farmland soils and surrounds a farmhouse built in 1740. The Digiulios added a barn to the property and opened the fields for pasture, raising hay as a dairy support crop.

“There is something in our blood. We just see that open land is important,” says Dan Digiulio, who approached CFT with his daughter, Kristin, about donating a conservation easement on the farm in Winter 2017.
