IRA – Qualified Charitable Distributions

Home > Ways to Give > IRA – Qualified Charitable Distributions

If you are 70 ½ or older you can transfer up to $100,000 per year directly from an IRA account to Connecticut Farmland Trust.

To do so, please contact your IRA plan custodian (the person or organization that manages your fund) to make a gift directly from your IRA. After you have completed the transfer, please let us know the arrangements that you have made, so we can acknowledge your gift promptly.

Note: While gifts from your IRA do not qualify for a charitable deduction, they do count towards your Required Mandatory Distribution (RMD), and are therefore removed from your taxable income. This means you don’t pay income taxes on those funds. If you need to take an RMD this year, making a gift from your IRA is a strategic way to do it.
